The Story

Region: Wegida, Yirgacheffe, SNNPR

Elevation: 2108 masl

About: Nigist Girmachew is a pioneering young woman in Ethiopia’s coffee industry and a member of the Jabanto farmers coffee group. After obtaining her competency certificate in 2022, she began exporting her own coffee under the Jabanto group, represented by Getu Bekele and G Broad PLC. Her farm is located in Wegida village, Yirgacheffe, in the renowned coffee-growing region of Dobi.

As both a dedicated coffee farmer and the matriarch of her family, Nigist balances her passion for coffee with raising her children and running a household. With support from local agricultural experts, she has improved her coffee's quality and yield each year.

Her sun-dried natural coffee is carefully processed on raised African beds, with ripe cherries dried for 18-21 days. By turning the cherries six times daily and monitoring moisture levels, Nigist ensures the exceptional quality of her beans—a testament to her skill and dedication in the coffee trade.
